the already paid bag

Its 7 pm and people are struggling with their grocery shopping tetris game. One customer bought a bag and left it at the bagging area. It seems he had enough space and didn't need the extra bag. He left, I assume, to help another customer out.

Ironically it made other customers even more uncomfortable. Those who saw the man leave the already bought bag there were hesitating.They knew that it is a gift and yet no took the gift. However those who didn't see the man leaving the bag behind were hesitating the most and even a little frightened. No one wants to look greedy. I get it. But a gift is a gift and even if you don't know if it is one, take it as one.
